Google now displays professionally taken photos of physical stores next to the results in its search engine. With a click on the ‘see inside’ button, American users can view the interior of stores. Google Business Photos, ‘Business Photos’ in Dutch, was tested in 2010 and subsequently rolled out in the US, the UK, Australia, New Zealand, and France. In May of this year, the service also became available in the Netherlands, Canada, and Ireland. PanoramasRetailers can give internet users a digital peek into their business using Street View technology. The panoramas were already visible on Google Maps. From now on, they will also appear in Google’s regular search results, starting in the US. Only retailers who had a Trusted Photographer from Google take pictures will be displayed.Engaging CustomersThere is (still) no specific interface for the new feature, writes Techcrunch; viewers must leave the search results page for a virtual tour through a store in Maps. According to Google, such a tour should engage (potential) customers: ‘With Business Photos, your customers can walk around your business like never before, explore your interior, and interact with your company. Customers can now experience your business as if they have truly stepped inside.’Video
