Short answer: connect Business Central via an integration platform with a standard connector, such as Conneqt. Orders, products, stock, prices, and customers will then synchronize without you having to build and maintain every integration yourself. You only opt for a custom API integration if your process truly deviates from the standard.
Business Central is Microsoft's ERP for SMEs. Many wholesalers and manufacturers work with it and want to allow their customers to order online at their own negotiated prices. We build B2B webshops on Magento and Hyvä and integrate them with ERP systems. So, we are not neutral. That is why we also explain below when a different route is a better fit.

What data do you synchronize between Business Central and Magento?
In a B2B integration, the ERP is leading for commercial data and the webshop for the order. This data is part of almost every integration:
Products: from Business Central to Magento. If you use a PIM system like Akeneo, the enriched product information comes from there.
Stock: from Business Central to Magento, so customers can see what is available.
Customer-specific prices and assortments: from Business Central to Magento.
Companies and contact persons: bidirectionally, depending on where you create customers.
Orders: from Magento to Business Central. Order statuses return to the webshop.
At Lankhorst-Taselaar, we connected SAP to a B2B ordering platform on the Hyvä B2B Suite in this way: product information, inventory, customer-specific prices and assortments, companies, contact persons, orders, and statuses. For Business Central, it involves the same types of data.
Three ways to connect Business Central to Magento
Microsoft provides a built-in connector for Shopify in Business Central. For Magento, you connect via the Business Central APIs. This can be done in three ways.
Standard connector via integration platform | Custom API integration | Integration module in Magento | |
|---|---|---|---|
What is it | A platform between ERP and webshop with a ready-made Business Central connector, such as Conneqt | Custom code connecting Magento directly to the Business Central APIs | An extension running in Magento that calls Business Central |
Build time | Short: you configure the standard and only build the exceptions | Long: you build every entity and every exception yourself | Short for the standard, difficult as soon as your process deviates |
Custom logic | In the platform, outside the webshop | Completely flexible | Limited to what the module allows |
Maintenance with updates | Standard connector handled by the platform vendor | With you or your agency | With the module vendor; you test every Magento update |
More systems (PIM, punchout) | Via the same platform | Build each integration separately | A different module per system |
Best suited for | Wholesalers with custom price agreements and multiple systems | A unique process that no platform supports | A simple webshop with few exceptions |
We integrate new webshops via Conneqt. Not because a direct integration isn't possible, but because an integration must continue to work for years after going live. Every update of Magento or Business Central is a moment where a custom integration can break.
How does the integration with Conneqt work?
Conneqt is the integration platform from our group. It features a standard connector for Microsoft Dynamics 365 Business Central, as well as connectors for SAP, Exact, Unit4, Visma, and Infor, among others. Conneqt sits between Business Central and Magento, synchronizing orders, inventory, products, prices, companies, and contacts. Read more about ERP integrations with Conneqt.
The advantage of having a platform in between: if you add a PIM system or an OCI punchout later, it runs via the same platform. You don't build a second, standalone integration that you have to monitor separately.
Real-time or batch?
Not everything needs to be real-time. Choose per data type:
Orders: as fast as possible to Business Central, so your warehouse can pick immediately.
Stock: frequently enough so customers don't order out-of-stock items. Fast-moving items more frequently than the rest.
Prices: customer prices and tiered pricing are synchronized in advance. If your pricing logic is too complex, you request the price live from Business Central at the time of ordering.
Products and customers: upon change. Business Central supports webhooks that trigger an alert when data changes.
How to approach a Business Central integration
Determine which system is leading for each data type.
Define your pricing logic: price lists, discounts, tiered pricing, and contract prices in Business Central.
Choose your route: standard connector, custom API integration, or module.
Test with real customers and real prices in a Business Central sandbox environment.
Go live with monitoring for failed orders and synchronizations.
With us, this begins with an introduction and a discovery phase. Afterwards, you receive an action plan, a timeline, and a predetermined financial estimate.
When shouldn't you choose Magento?
If you have few B2B-specific requirements and primarily want to go live quickly, Shopify with Microsoft's built-in Business Central connector might be sufficient. If you have customer-specific pricing, personalized assortments, punchout, or multiple systems alongside Business Central, you will reach its limits much sooner. Frequently Asked Questions
Does Magento have a standard integration with Business Central?
Not out of the box in Magento itself. You connect via Business Central's APIs: using a module, with custom code, or via an integration platform. Conneqt has a standard connector for Business Central.
Can I display customer-specific prices from Business Central in Magento?
Yes. Prices, discounts, and tiered pricing per customer are synchronized from Business Central. With the Hyvä B2B Suite, you display them per company, with roles and permissions per user.
How much does a Business Central integration with Magento cost?
That depends on your pricing logic, the number of data types, and the systems alongside Business Central. A standard integration requires less development and maintenance than custom work. After the discovery phase, you will receive a predetermined estimate from us.
Can I also connect Business Central to Shopify?
Yes. Microsoft provides the Shopify Connector for this purpose, which synchronizes product catalogs, prices, inventory, and orders. For complex B2B pricing and punchout, you will need apps or external integrations on Shopify.
Can I add a PIM system later?
Yes. Via Conneqt, you can also connect PIM systems such as Akeneo. Business Central remains leading for price and stock, and the PIM for product information.
